Every year on March 21st, Polish(波兰的) schools have a popular activity to celebrate the start of 1: the drowning(淹死) of Marzanna.
In the old days, Marzanna stood 2 winter, death and sickness. People used to make Marzanna dolls(玩偶) and then drown or even burn(烧) 3. They did this to forget the cold weather and wish for a 4 harvest.
I have some memories of Marzanna 5 primary school. One day, we all brought in old clothes, colourful ribbons(丝带) and straw(稻草). We were really excited 6 we wanted to make the ugliest(最丑的) Marzanna.
After 7 our doll, we walked to the town’s bridge. Our Marzanna looked huge. After a few 8, we let her float away(漂走) in the river.
Remember, do not 9 Marzanna before throwing her into the water—it brings bad luck.
Even today, kids walk along the streets with the Marzanna doll and sing to chase away(赶走) the winter cold. However, to protect the 10, some choose not to drown the doll.
