Four years after Queensland won the competition to host the Games, plans for the places are coming together. But these plans have caused arguments and will cost a lot.

On Tuesday, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli announced which cities in the Sunshine State would host different events. Sports fans also learned which stadiums would host the opening and closing ceremonies, along with the athletics.
The premier said a new Olympic stadium would be built at Victoria Park. A 25,000-seat National Aquatic Centre would also be built there. It will become the home of Australian water sports. The RNA Showgrounds will turn into a 20,000-seat stadium, near a Brisbane athletes' village.
During his election activities, Mr Crisafulli promised that no new stadiums would be built. But on Tuesday, he announced a new 60,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park as the flagship stadium. After the Games, the stadium will host Brisbane Lions and Cricket Australia matches.
Mr Crisafulli admitted he had broken his "no new stadium" promise. He said he would take responsibility and was sorry. He added that improving the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre was "politically easier" but not the best for the state.
Mr Crisafulli said the development of many stadiums and infrastructure was "completely funded". Many Olympic and Paralympic sports organizations will move their headquarters to the new National Aquatic Centre.
Improving the Gabba was not possible, so Victoria Park was chosen. Mr Crisafulli said it was a choice between spending billions on temporary facilities(临时设施) and building a new home for AFL and cricket.
The Brisbane Tennis Centre will be improved. Soccer will be hosted in Cairns and Townsville, and sailing in Townsville. Hockey will be played at an improved centre on the Gold Coast.
The government had to choose among four stadium plans. A 2.7-billion redevelopment of the Gabba would close a school and leave teams without a home ground. A 1.6-billion improvement to the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre would only have 40,000 seats. The most expensive choice was a 6-billion stadium at Brisbane's Northshore.
( )1. What caused arguments about the Games?
A. Locations of events.
B. High costs and plans.
C. Shortage of stadiums.
D. Accommodation for athletes.
( )2. What new stadiums will be constructed at Victoria Park?
A. An Olympic stadium and a 20,000-seat stadium.
B. An Olympic stadium and a national aquatic centre.
C. A 60,000-seat stadium and a 20,000-seat stadium.
D. A 20,000-seat stadium and a national aquatic centre.
( )3. How did Mr Crisafulli reply to breaking his promise by building a new stadium?
A. By just saying sorry to the public.
B. By showing cost to prove how well it works.
C. By comparing the new stadium with old ones.
D. By explaining the reasons for putting long-term benefits first.
( )4. Which of the following statements is TRUE about the three stadium plans?
A. All plans meet the needs of local sports events well.
B. The redevelopment of the Gabba is the cheapest plan.
C. The stadium at Brisbane's Northshore is the most costly option.
D. The improved Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre can offer the most seats.
