①When you look up at the sky at night, you can see many stars. But do you know the Sun is a star too? Yes, it is the only one in the solar system. As a star, the Sun has eight planets(行星) around it.
②Among the eight planets, Earth is a middle-sized one. Mercury(水星), Venus(金星) and Mars are smaller than Earth. Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system. The other four planets are larger. They are Jupiter(木星), Saturn(土星), Uranus(天王星) and Neptune(海王星). Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.
③Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, while Neptune is the farthest. Uranus, Neptune’s neighbour, stays farther away from the Sun than Saturn. As for Earth, it is the third closest planet to the Sun—closer than Mars but farther than Venus and Mercury.
④Our home Earth is alive with life because it is not too hot or too cold. Mercury and Venus are much hotter than Earth, while Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are much colder.
⑤There are many celestial bodies(天体) in the solar system. Besides the eight planets, there are many other smaller ones. Together, they make up the amazing solar system!
