Long long ago, there was a woodcutter. He worked in the forest and got wood to sell so that he could buy some food. As he was cutting a tree, his axe accidentally fell into a river. The river was deep and was flowing fast. He lost his axe and could not find it again.
He sat and cried by the riverside. While he was crying, the river god came out and asked him what happened. The woodcutter told him. The river god offered to help him find his axe.
The god disappeared into the river and came back with an axe made of gold but the woodcutter said it was not his. The god disappeared again and came back with a silver axe, but the woodcutter said that was not his either. The god disappeared into the water one more time and came back with an iron axe. The woodcutter smiled and said it was his.
The god was happy with the woodcutter's honesty and gave him both the gold and silver axes.
