In the Chinese zodiac(生肖), there is no cat. But in Vietnam(越南), the cat gets to be part of the zodiac. It takes the rabbit's place. Vietnamese people celebrate the "Year of the Cat"! How did it happen?
One reason is that in China, the rabbit is sometimes called "mao tu(卯兔)". The word "mao" sounds like the Vietnamese word for "cat". So, when the zodiac came to Vietnam, the rabbit turned into a cat.
Another reason is that Vietnam is warm and full of jungles(丛林). These are not good places for rabbits, but they are great for cats. So, people in Vietnam know cats better.
Also, rice farming is very important in Vietnam. There are a lot of mice in the fields, and cats are great at catching them. So, people in Vietnam see cats as lucky animals. Maybe that's why they celebrate the Year of the Cat!
