On April 24, 2025, at 5:17 p.m., the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre became very bright because of a big fire. The Long March 2F rocket took the
Shenzhou-20 manned spacecraft into the sky. It flew fast towards the big universe. This day was very special. It was the 10th "China Space Day" and also the 55th birthday of the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite's launch.
55 years ago, on April 24, 1970, China sent its first man-made satellite, "Dongfanghong-1", into space. At that time, things were hard but Chinese scientists didn't give up. They worked very hard and solved many difficult problems. They wanted people to see the satellite, so they put a big "skirt" on the rocket. The "Dongfanghong-1" played the song Dongfanghong in space. It started China's space journey.
55 years later, the Shenzhou-20 spacecraft flew. There are three astronauts in this mission. Chen Dong is the leader. Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie are new astronauts. This is their first space trip.
From "Dongfanghong-1" to Shenzhou-20, China's space science has changed a lot. Before, we just sent satellites into space. Now, we build space stations and do science experiments there. But one thing never changes—the spirit of Chinese space scientists. They love their country and work hard. In the past, they made great things happen with few tools. Today, young scientists keep working hard, too. China's space science will go further and make more great achievements.
