"I'm Sara Bennett from the city news-
paper. Can I talk to you?"
I look at Mama. She nods her head in my
direction(方向). I'm the one who needs to
make some noise. I start talking, and Ms
Bennett writes something on a small notebook.
"A walking path(小路) would be nice," I
say, "and maybe a vegetable garden. And a
bench so people could sit down and listen to the
birds singing. " I'm surprised at myself, at how
many ideas I've got for this street corner.
When we're done, Ms Bennett takes a few
more pictures and thanks me for my time. I
can't believe it! A real newspaper story about
my corner! Mama says, "I'm really proud of
you, Tia. I have a feeling-tomorrow is going
to be a big day. "
Mama is right. A My brothers run
into my room the next morning, waving a copy
of the paper. "B Fighting for Nature on the
Corner of 71st" is the title of the article. C
We're all jumping up and down when Mama
says, "D Hey, don't have a party just yet.
You've got a corner to save. "
After breakfast, we take our chairs and
signs back to the corner. All of a sudden, I see
my friend Tanya and her family coming down
the street. They've got chairs and they're
joining us!
"That was quite an article in the paper,
Tia," says Tanya's father. "You've got some
good ideas for this corner."
Then Mr and Mrs Choi from the second
floor show up. "Tia, I think you're right. We
need a little nature around here," Mrs Choi
says.
This isn't just my corner anymore. This is
our corner. No one can use it as a parking lot!

ations) from Cardiff has been named the
winner of The Great British Sewing Bee.
Asmaa Al-Allak grew up in Iraq where her
grandmother, a seamstress (dressmaker),
taught her to sew. When she was 14, Al-
Allak came to the UK and later studied
medicine in Cardiff. Yet her passion for
needlework never left her. One of the judges
called her final design "a feat of genius". It
was a dress that could be transformed from a
blue outfit into a green ballgown through a
system of hooks. "Among everything I have
done in the last 45 years of my life, this has
to top it all," she said.
