Falling on March 5th this year, Jingzhe, or the "the Wakening of Insects（昆虫）", is one of the 24 solar terms（节气）in the Chinese lunar calendar.
The beginning of March brings some unusual weather. Temperatures rise and rain falls with thunder（雷声）. Some insects have been sleeping for the whole winter, but now this thunder awaken them.
Chinese farmers think Jingzhe is very important, since it marks the start of spring plowing（春耕）. They should also take care of their livestock（家畜）, such as chickens, pigs and cows.
Another Jingzhe tradition is eating pears. As the weather gets warmer and the air becomes dry, people may feel their mouths and tongues dry, which can cause colds or coughs. Pears are sweet, juicy and cold. They can make our mouths wet and protect our dry throats.
