Ⅲ. Read and answer the questions.
① What makes a hero? Many people think heroes are those with superpowers or famous historical figures, but that’s not true. A hero is someone who shows bravery, courage and selflessness in daily life. They don’t need to do amazing things; instead, they go out of their way to help others and make a positive difference. Heroes can be our family, teachers, neighbours or even strangers, and we can easily find them around us.
② One key quality of a hero is courage. Courage doesn’t mean being fearless, but being afraid yet moving forward. Heroes stand up for what is right, even when others disagree. They face difficulties directly instead of running away. For example, a student who protects a classmate from a bully(欺凌) shows real courage, taking risks to help those in need.
③ Another important quality is selflessness. Heroes put others’ needs before their own. They help others without seeking fame, money or rewards, acting out of true kindness. A volunteer who spends free time helping the homeless or the elderly is selfless, giving up their time to make others’ lives better.
④ Besides, heroes encourage others. They set good examples, giving us hope in hard times. As writer Joseph Campbell said: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Heroes dedicate themselves to meaningful things, like helping others or making the world fairer.
⑤ In conclusion, heroes are ordinary people with great courage and kindness. They don’t need fame or special abilities. Each of us can be a hero by being kind, brave and ready to help others, making a difference in our own small way.

1. 细节理解题:定位第2段,原文指出“Courage doesn’t mean being fearless, but being afraid yet moving forward. For example, a student who protects a classmate from a bully shows real courage, taking risks to help those in need.”
