Year-12 student Noah Little has already sat his first Chinese oral exam and said it was "the easiest exam I've ever done". That view is not surprising given that the Wagga Wagga High School student loves language—so much that he has built a Chinese translation app.
Noah said his love of language was encouraged by his community. "Wagga Wagga is a place full of people from different cultures, and sometimes when I meet new people who have trouble speaking English, I like to talk to them in their own language," he said. "I also have a few Chinese friends so I think it will be cool to talk to them in their language."
The 17-year-old started teaching himself Chinese around five years ago, before taking distance education courses at the start of Year 11. His language ability was also useful in his part-time job at a local Chinese restaurant, where he translated orders for the cooks and customers.
Noah said he also had a basic knowledge of seven other languages. It was while teaching himself the languages that Noah got the idea for the translation tool. "I decided to make my own app because there weren't many around—all the other apps were full of advertisements and the translation feature (功能) wasn't powerful enough," he said.
His app also includes a word-of-the-day feature, lessons on how to write Chinese characters(汉字) and a news feed of important Chinese news.
He said learning computer programming to build the app had been like studying another language. With the end of school around the corner, Noah said he would like to pursue (追求) both his interest in computer programming and languages. "I'm planning to work for a year and save money so that I can go on to university as I really want to make a career (事业) out of one of these two topics."

While most people are inspired by the motto (座右铭), "You're never too old to learn something new," Kimeila Campbell has proven that a person is never too young to bring about change. Born in Jamaica and later moving to the United States, Kimeila grew up watching her entrepreneur (企业家) mother run an event space.
"Seeing her go through ups and downs made me want to be an entrepreneur too," said Kimeila, who sometimes helped her mom at Glitz Elite Events Studio. "I thought for my age, maybe I'm too young. But my mom said it could help other kids and teen entrepreneurs instead of just making money for myself."
With this goal, she started her own monthly magazine when she celebrated her 14th birthday. Her YNTY Magazine—which stands for You're Never Too Young—aims to inspire young and upcoming entrepreneurs and public figures. It is to inspire people younger than 18 to follow their dreams whatever their age.
"Nowadays, teenagers look up to rich women and men on social media and dream to be like them, without any idea of the price they had to pay to get to where they are now," Kimeila said. "Consider your choices carefully and make goals for where you want to be in the future."
In the magazine, Kimeila shows hot topics, daily sayings, as well as suggestions from professionals and those who have made it in their industries. Meanwhile, the YNTY Magazine also
includes a special part in which necessary steps are given to parents of young entrepreneurs to help and guide their children. "One thing I'd like my readers to know is that ... if you believe you can do it, YNTY Magazine is where you can come to find a community of comfort and confidence to support your dreams."
Kimeila refused to wait until she's older to make a difference in the world. In the next five years, the young girl wants to make the YNTY Magazine become available on newsstands (报摊) around the world, in various languages; become a household name and the resource kidpreneurs go to for advice and inspiration whenever they feel discouraged or overwhelmed (不知所措的).
