颜色有重量吗?
Do colours have “weight”? No, of course not. But scientists find different colours can change how we feel about weight! Let’s do a small test. First, prepare two balls and two light-coloured boxes. The balls are the same and so are the boxes. Put the balls into the boxes (one ball in one box). Then, close the boxes. Next, paint one box red, and the other white. Now feel the boxes with your hands. Oh! You will feel the red one is heavier and the white one is lighter. In fact, their weights are the same but our feelings are different.
In our daily life, dark-coloured things like rocks may often look heavy, and light-coloured things like white clouds may often look light. So, we often feel dark colours are “heavy” and light colours are “light”. It’s called the “colour-weight illusion”.
▲ For example, coffee shops like to serve coffee in dark-coloured cups, like dark green and dark blue. These colours make the cups look “heavy” and you may think there is a lot of coffee in them. And iPads are often white because they look lighter and easier to carry in white.
