“You’re home by yourself today!” When Karthik hears his parents say this, he is excited at first. He thinks about all the fun things he can do.
But soon, the weather turns bad. It rains heavily, and there is lightning too. This scares him a little, so he takes out his favourite book, *Harry Potter*, from the bookshelf.
Again, there is a terrible sound of lightning. He tries to focus on his book, but then, the sudden sound of the doorbell stops him. It is only 3:10 p. m., and his parents usually come back at 6:00 p. m. It can’t be his parents. The doorbell sounds again. “Who’s there?” he shouts. There is no answer. He remembers his parents telling him not to open the door without knowing who it is.
“Should I answer it?” thinks Karthik. He decides to prepare himself for a bad experience. He goes into his room and comes out with a baseball bat. He shouts once again, “Who’s at the door?” There is still no answer.
Just as he gets more scared and doesn’t know what to do, there comes a loud voice. “Karthik! Karthik! Why don’t you open the door?”
“Dad!” Karthik shouts happily and rushes forward to open the door.
“Why are you holding a baseball bat?” asks Karthik’s father. For a moment, the boy seems at a loss for words. Then his father gives him a big smile, maybe understanding the reason.

解析
56. 根据原文第二段“It rains heavily, and there is lightning too. This scares him a little, so he takes out his favourite book, *Harry Potter*, from the bookshelf.”
57. 根据原文第三段“It is only 3:10 p. m., and his parents usually come back at 6:00 p. m. It can’t be his parents.”
④ Karthik听到门铃声(第三段“the sudden sound of the doorbell stops him”);
② Karthik拿出棒球棒(第四段“He goes into his room and comes out with a baseball bat”);
① Karthik的爸爸喊他名字(第五段“Karthik! Karthik! Why don’t you open the door?”);
③ Karthik给爸爸开门(第六段“rushes forward to open the door”);
59. 文中Karthik的情绪变化:开头听到独自在家时“excited”(第一段);暴风雨和门铃声让他“scared”(第二段“scares him a little”、第四段“gets more scared”);看到爸爸后“happily”(第六段),所以情绪变化是Excited→Scared→Happy,选B。
A. 《A Terrible Stormy Night》:原文时间是下午3:10,不是夜晚,不符合;
B. 《Weather Affects Feelings》:仅涉及暴风雨影响情绪的部分内容,不是全文核心;
C. 《The Scary Doorbell》:门铃声是引发后续事件的核心线索,贯穿全文,符合;
D. 《Don’t Open the Door》:文章重点不是强调“不要开门”,而是围绕门铃的经历,不符合;
故选C。
