One day, Li Ming, a primary school student from Beijing, is doing his Chinese homework. He feels a little tired, so he opens a picture sharing app on his phone. He just plans to look at some pictures for a short while to have a break.
However, half an hour later, he is still looking at pictures. Li Ming says he finds many interesting things in these pictures. Some pictures show beautiful places, and some show cute animals.
According to a small survey in his class, 30% of the students look at pictures on apps in their free time. And about 15% of them open the picture sharing apps several times a day.
Wang Yue, one of Li Ming’s classmates, says she likes these pictures because they are colourful and fun. “Looking at them makes me happy,” she says.
But Li Ming and Wang Yue also think they sometimes spend too much time on these apps. Luckily, the app has a “rest reminder” function. It will remind students to have a rest after they use the app for 20 minutes. This function helps them control the time they spend on the app and leave more time for their study and other activities.
