North America is in the northern hemisphere(北半球). North America is the third largest continent(大陆) in the world by land area, after Asia and Africa.
Greenland is the largest island in the world, which lies in North America. However, there are few people living there, making it the least densely(密集地) populated area with about 56,800 people in 2023. Greenland covers a total area of about 2,166,000 square kilometres.
Nicaragua is a country in North America, covering about 130, 400 square kilometres. Located in Central America between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the country had about 7, 046, 300 people in 2023. Honduras follows with a total area of about 112,500 square kilometres. The country had a population of about 10,594,000 in 2023.
Most of the total surface of North America is occupied(占据) by two countries: Canada and the United States. Although Canada is the largest country in North America, the United States has the largest population. Although Greenland has a large surface area, its population is among the smallest in the continent. This is because about 80% of the area is covered by ice. In fact, about a third of the people in Greenland live in the capital city Nuuk while the others live along fjords(峡湾).
