Riding bikes is a great way to keep healthy.
It is good for our heart and mental health. A surprising benefit of cycling is that it is good for our knees. A new study says riders may not have knee pain later in life.
A team from a college made the study. Scientists surveyed (调查) 2,600 men and women at the age of about 64 who liked riding bikes. They asked the men and women about their physical activity, and also took X-rays of them. They got clear pictures of the state of their knees.
The scientist, Dr Grace Lo, said that she hardly believed the result of the study. She said fewer riders had something wrong with their knees than the people who didn’t ride bikes. She said, “I am surprised to see how strong the benefit of cycling is.” A lot of studies show that riders usually live longer.
Dr Grace Lo said, “Cycling is good for many things.” People over the age of 50 are easy to have arthritis (关节炎). Cycling helps stop people from getting it. So, from now on, ride your bike to school or to work. You will get help from it.
6. What’s the benefits of riding bikes according to Paragraph 1?
7. How many people did the scientists survey?
8. How did the scientists survey the people who liked riding bikes?
9. Do you like riding bikes? Why or why not?
