When a group of planes flew over
Tian'anmen Square during the great meeting to
remember the 80th year of the victory of the
Chinese People's War of Resistance Against
Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-
Fascist War(中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西
斯战争), Ruan Guoqin held up a photo of Wang
Wei to the sky.
Ruan spoke to the photo, "Wang Wei,
today I brought you to China's Victory Day
military parade(阅兵). Can you see it?"
On April 1, 2001, a U. S. surveillance
plane(侦察机) went into China's airspace over
the South China Sea. Wang Wei's jet followed
and hit the U. S. plane in China's waters near
Hainan Island. Wang Wei went missing and
later he was found dead.
Another person who was at the Victory
Day military parade was Yao Jiusui, the mother
of Chen Xiangrong, a martyr(烈士). Yao said,
"When I look at the rows of soldiers in the
square, I think of my son. They are so
honorable and brave. Today, I'm here to watch
the military parade for you, my son. Mum is so
proud of you. "
Chen Xiangrong was born in 2001 and
joined the PLA(中国人民解放军) in 2019. In
June 2020, during a fight for the country, Chen
fought bravely and lost his life to protect the
country's land and borders(边界). In 2021, he
was posthumously awarded the first-class merit
citation.
People's Daily reported, "Heroes have
never gone away. This time, the martyrs and
their comrades met again in the motherland's
capital. Their love for the motherland and the
people will always guide us forward."
