Two Stars in Space:Liu Yang and Wang Yaping
China's space program shines brightly, thanks to the courage(勇气) of its astronauts, especially its remarkable(卓越的) women. Liu Yang and Wang Yaping are two of these inspiring(鼓舞人心的) heroes, each with their own wonderful story.
Liu Yang:The Pioneering(先驱的) Pilot
Liu Yang was born in 1978. Before becoming an astronaut, she was an excellent pilot in the Chinese Air Force. In 2012, she made history by flying on the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft. This mission made her the first Chinese woman ever to travel to space. She stayed in space for more than ten days and helped do important experiments(实验). Her calmness(沉稳) and professional skills(专业技能) helped complete China's first manned space docking(对接) with the
Tiangong 1 space lab.
Wang Yaping:The Space Teacher
Wang Yaping, born in 1980, was also a pilot. She traveled to space on the Shenzhou 10 mission in 2013. During her flight, she did something very special: she gave a live science lesson to over 60 million students on Earth from the Tiangong-1! She became the first Chinese teacher in space. In 2021, she went to space again on the Shenzhou 13 mission and spent six months on the in-construction Tiangong Space Station, taking spacewalks and continuing(继续) her important work.
Both women have shown the world that with great dreams and hard work, anything is possible. They are true role models and they have inspired countless young people, especially girls, to reach for the stars.
