In the first year, he decides to go to the East. Everything in the East is wise. He travels for six days. On the seventh day he comes to the land of the Tartars. There are lots of hills and the land is dry and hot. He sits under a tree and watches. Then he joins merchants(商人) and starts his journey. They leave the land of the Tartars and travel to many strange lands.
They come to a land where the people curse(诅咒) the moon. They see gryphons guarding their gold on white rocks, dragons sleeping in their caves. They pass mountains with snow. They pass valleys(山谷) with pygmies shooting arrows. At night, they hear wild men beat their drums. They come to the tower of the apes. They come to the tower of the serpents. They cross the river Oxus three times on rafts of wood.
After four months the soul and merchants arrive at the city of Illel. One day the soul comes to the temple(寺庙) of the city's god and he wants to see the god. A priest in the temple takes him to three rooms. In the first room he sees a statue. In the second room he sees another statue. In the third room there are no statues. But there is a round mirror. It is a special mirror—the Mirror of Wisdom. When the soul looks into it, he can't see himself but he can see everything in heaven and on Earth and he becomes wise.
The soul takes the mirror to the fisherman. But the fisherman says, "I don't want Wisdom. I want Love."
