China’s visa-free policy gets even better for tourists
Do you have any foreign friends? Would you like them to travel to China? Now tell them travelling in China has just gotten much easier!
Since Dec. 17, 2024, China’s National Immigration Administration(国家移民管理局) has relaxed its visa-free transit policy(过境免签政策). Foreign visitors can now stay for up to 240 hours, an increase from the previous 144 hours. Also, the country added 21 more ports of entry and exit(入出境口岸) to the list, bringing the total number to 60.
Another good thing about this new policy is that travellers can now go to different regions. This makes it easier for foreign visitors to plan trips and visit more places. It also helps the economy in different regions grow.
“The rules will better meet the needs of foreign visitors and help drive a new wave of tourism(旅游业) in China,” Sun Bowen from Trip.com Group told Nanfang Metropolis Daily. Its data also showed that about a quarter of foreign tourists who travelled to China visited the country more than twice in 2024. This highlights a strong will to spend more time in the country. Sun also said that less famous cities and cities with rich cultures, like those in Shanxi Province, will become popular with foreign travellers.
China has taken many steps to make travelling easier for foreigners. They can now use foreign credit cards connected to Alipay and WeChat Pay.
Trip.com also sells tickets online and there are ticket machines in different languages at some places. However, Sun said that cities still have work to do, such as improving transportation links(交通枢纽) and language services.
