I made a special trip to the hutong in Beijing this summer. It was amazing. Outside, there was heavy traffic. It was crowded and noisy. Inside, however, each clean path between two brick(砖) walls was a peaceful and quiet world.
It was my first day in Beijing. At first, it was just an ordinary afternoon, but soon became special. I got off the underground and turned into the main street. Rickshaws(黄包车) carried tourists along the road. The drivers spoke loudly to introduce things and places along the way. The tourists laughed and joked with the drivers. The main street was busy and a bit noisy, so I turned into a hutong.
The sun shone through the trees and flowers and some flowers from the trees had dried up and fallen to the ground. A big yellow dog lay in the shadow of the trees, waving its tail. Outside a door, an old man sat in a little chair, holding a large fan. He moved it slowly up and down.
I walked past the buildings and looked through the open gates. Inside a red door, small children played and ran after each other, while the adults talked and laughed. I continued walking into the depths of the hutong. The smell of cooked meat and vegetables filled the air. There was a feeling of happiness.
However, time passed so fast. When the sun went down, I stood at the end of the hutong and looked at the beautiful sky. It was like a huge palette(调色板). Rose, purple, red and orange were mixed together to create a colourful sky.
The trip to the hutong in Beijing might seem ordinary, but in fact it was full of history and culture. I'll never forget that special trip.
