A人与社会——暖心织情
It's always a good thing to have a hobby. For Miss Patty, a school bus driver in Erie County, her hobby of knitting(编织)has made her really touch the community.
Miss Patty always wanted to do something in her spare time to help the students. After a conversation with one of the students, things took a turn from knitting one hat to knitting more hats.
“The one boy got on the bus, and he went ‘what are you doing?’ I said I was making a hat. He said, ‘That would be great having such a warm hat in icy winter.’ So I said, ‘What colour would you like?’ That started everything,” Miss Patty told the local newspaper.
Several years have passed since that day, and Miss Patty has already knitted 7,083 hats for students in her spare time. Sometimes she will get the student's favourite colour before she begins the project.
What is more moving is that Miss Patty buys all the materials(材料)using her own money. Some people do give her gift cards around the holidays to help, but she still puts out a lot of her own money.
Along with making hats for the students that will keep them warm, Miss Patty also gets praise for being a trusted friend to the students.

The old Hui ink sticks, an important tool for Chinese traditional painting and calligraphy, have new designs like lunar craters and famous poses. Now, with livestreaming, these Hui ink sticks with new designs are showing people that the old ink sticks are not outdated.
Leading this change is 34-year-old Xiang Song. He's the fourth generation to make Hui ink sticks and he adds modern ideas to them.
Now, because of social media and livestreaming, more young people are interested in old cultural things and mixing them with new ideas. Xiang's family's ink sticks are one example.
In Xiang's hometown, some people are also making products that are more popular with young people. They use the internet to sell them and it's working well.
"These new designs are cheaper and more useful, so they're really popular with young people, especially when compared to traditional ink stones," says Cheng Lihui who is an experienced ink stick maker.
Cheng also says he's happy about livestreaming. In the past, it was hard to get young people interested in old cultural things. But now, with livestreaming, people can show their skills and get feedback to make better products.
After improving the product design, Cheng sold his products all over the country using online platforms. One livestreaming event alone made over 300,000 yuan in sales.

Did you know that a seed(种子) can have its own "ID card"? The "card" shows that the seed is at the national crop germplasm bank(国家作物种质库) in Beijing, known as China's seed bank.
A seed's journey to the seed bank starts with a census(普查). China's latest census of agricultural(农业的) seeds started in March 2021 and ended in January 2024, reported CCTV News. Workers collected more than 139,000 new seeds from all over the country. They then arrived at the seed bank.
When seeds first come in, they each get a number for their "physical test". For example, workers put all kinds of Job's tears(薏苡) from different farms together. Then they put them into groups according to the seeds' look or taste. Next, workers check the seeds to make sure they're healthy and all the unhealthy ones are given up.
With the bad seeds gone, researchers then test the good ones to see how likely they are to grow. The seed bank has a quick, smart way of doing this: Workers test the seeds and use the information they get to predict(预测) their growth. Workers dry and weigh the best seeds after several tests. Then, they're stored in a super cold icebox at $-18° C$. China's seed bank keeps all the seed information safe and helps people learn about them. This can help develop new plants that can grow better and deal well with hard environments, ensuring the food safety of the country.

You can eat them alone or put them into juices, teas, yogurt, or even bread. Goji berries are believed to be super foods because they can help stop you getting sick, help with better sleep, and even help with eye health.
Soy(大豆) comes from soybeans. From soy, we can make soy milk, soy sauce, miso paste (for soups), as well as tofu. Tofu has several benefits(益处) that make it a super food. It can replace(代替) meat in many dishes because it contains protein, and is also a healthier choice. This is because while meat has more protein than tofu, meat such as pork also has more fat. So in some ways it's better to add tofu to your meal. With tofu, many people can become a vegetarian(素食主义者) in a healthy way.
