Rogan is an animal scientist and he studies whales. He uses a drone(无人驾驶飞机）named SnotBot for his work. SnotBot has an important job:to collect information about whales.
When Andy finds a whale,he flies SnotBot close to it. SnotBot flies with a Petri dish(培养皿). When the whale's snot(鼻涕）comes out, SnotBot flies over the animal, and quickly collects it. Andy gets very excited when his robot does a good job. The whale snot makes him know which whale it is, so he can learn more about the number of whales. SnotBot also has a camera with it, so it can take photos of these big sea animals when they swim and play.
Andy and SnotBot aren't alone. Around the world, people are using drones to help protect wildlife. They do everything from watching endangered monkeys in Brazil to finding out how many seabirds live in the South Atlantic. In Africa, drones are helping to stop people from killing animals.
It can be expensive to study animals because some special machines cost a lot. Drones can help make this work cheaper. Andy's team wrote a paper about using drones to study whales. They hope that flying robots like SnotBot can help keep animals safe and healthy everywhere.
