I am Tom and I am 13 years old. Today I am going to interview(采访) a scientist about what life will be like in 50 years' time. I will be 63 years old then!
Tom: Will I ever travel in a flying car?
Mr Scientist: People have imagined flying car for a long time. In the next 50 years, there will be a lot more people around—that makes us worry about how bad the traffic(交通) will be. A flying car that takes you straight to work or school sounds like a great and exciting idea! But do you think we can drive a flying car one day? We have to think about the system we have today—cars are going on the ground. To make flying car work, we would need two systems at the same time, cars on the road and cars in the air. This would cost a lot of money. Flying cars would also need places to take off and land. Also flying cars would be very expensive. These are serious problems, so I don't think we will have flying cars in the next 50 years.
Tom: Well, that is disappointing! If we don't have flying cars, then how will we solve the traffic problems?
Mr Scientist: Studies found that more than 50% of traffic problems in cities are caused by people looking for parking. But what if they knew exactly where to go? In England, in some cities, they are putting sensors(感应器) on street parking spots(停车场). There is a signal when a parking spot is free. Drivers must have an app on their mobile phones with a map. The map shows when and where a parking spot becomes available. People can find a place to park, without driving round and round the city—wasting time and fuel.
