A smile shows that a person is happy. A person may smile when he or she feels good about a grade on a test. Or a person may smile if a friend tells a funny story. Here are some good reasons for people to smile.
First, it is easier to smile than to show unhappiness. In fact, it only takes 17 muscles(肌肉) to smile. On the other hand, it takes 43 muscles to show unhappiness. So relax the muscles in your face and smile!
Second, smiles are nice. People may try to look nice by exercising or wearing nice clothes. However, there is a famous saying, "A smile is the best thing that a person can wear." That is because it is easy to be around someone who is smiling and happy. Almost no one wants to be around someone who is unhappy all the time.
Third, smiles are magical. ▲ If one person smiles, people around him or her want to smile too. Similarly, when a person laughs, people want to laugh with him or her. If a person is sad, the best thing to do is to share a smile. It is the easiest and cheapest way to cheer someone up.
All in all, smiling is a powerful and easy way to make life better. When you are mad or sad, try smiling. You'll find that it will be hard to stay mad or sad for very long! So, try to smile more often every day!

答案略
One rainy afternoon, Adam was at home by himself. It rained heavily.
The sound of thunder(雷) was so loud that it felt like the gods were
fighting in the sky. Adam felt afraid, so he started to read his favourite book, Harry Potter, to feel better.
Again, there was a terrible sound of thunder. Adam tried to focus on reading, but the sudden sound of the doorbell interrupted him. He put down the book and looked at the wall clock. It was only 3:10 p.m. His parents couldn’t come home from work before 6:00 p.m., so he wanted to know who could be at the door. “Who’s there?” he shouted, but no one answered. The doorbell rang again and this made Adam uneasy(不安的). He remembered his parents telling him not to open the door without checking(确认) who it is.
“Should I answer the bell or not?” he thought. He decided to first prepare something for himself. So he went into a room and came out with a baseball bat. He held it behind his back and shouted once again. “Who’s at the door?” There was still no answer. No sound of footsteps either.
Suddenly, there was a loud cry. “Adam! Adam! Why don’t you open the door?” asked his dad.
Adam quickly opened the door and saw his dad standing there. His dad looked at the bat in Adam’s hand and asked, “Why are you holding a baseball bat?” For a moment, Adam didn’t know what to say. Then his dad smiled and understood why Adam did so.
