“When I was little, I was always interested in buildings,” said Edna Blaise, 29, from Haiti, “but it was not until I started my journey in China that I realized Chinese architecture（建筑） has so many things to
offer.” Blaise is now studying architecture in Beijing. Before coming to China, Blaise expected the buildings in China to be traditional（传统的） in style just like the ones she saw in movies. “But after I came here, I realized that they’re more developed now,” said Blaise.
It was her interest in geometry（几何学） and maths as well as her love for art that encouraged her to study architecture. The subject perfectly combines（结合） these two fields. “Because China has one of the oldest cultures in the world, I think there’s a lot I can learn here,” Blaise said. “The skills in China are more developed than those in a lot of other countries.”
“Outside of class, I like to go to different places around the city where I can see ancient Chinese buildings like ‘Gugong’. I’m hoping to find some new ideas from these beautiful buildings,” Blaise said. She usually takes her camera on these trips to take photos of interesting details of the buildings.
