四、阅读理解
As the development of the society, many old industrial buildings are abandoned(遗弃). It is such a waste.
Now China seems to find a new way for them. In recent years, many abandoned factories and railway stations have been changed into cultural and tourist centres.
The 798 Art Zone in Beijing is a good example. Built in the 1950s as No. 718 Joint Factory, it was abandoned in the 1990s as production slowed down. In 2006, the government spent over 120 million yuan on it and turned the factory into a cultural centre. Now the art centre holds about 200 galleries(展览馆), art centres as well as stores, cafes, and restaurants.
Jack Liu is a fan of the art centre. “In the art centre, you can learn the development of Chinese industry through its old buildings,” he said. “However, in art galleries here you will feel pulled into a modern world. It’s amazing.”
Cities in China now work hard to find new ways and models to protect those abandoned factories. For example, a beer(啤酒)museum has been set up inside a century - old factory of the Tsingtao Brewery(啤酒厂)in Qingdao, Shandong Province, bringing people closer to the long history of the brewery. Some abandoned factories in Beijing have also been used for people to take adventures in.
Old factories and workshops across the country recorded the history of Chinese industry. Giving new life to them through protection and development is important for driving cities’ innovation(创新)and development, noted *People’s Daily*.
