Lily was ten years old, and she was the only kid in her neighbourhood who couldn't ride a bike. Every afternoon, she watched her friends zoom down the street, laughing with the wind in their hair. “This summer,” she told herself, “I'm going to learn.”
On the first day, her dad took off the training wheels. Lily sat on the bike, her hands shaking. “Just push and pedal,” Dad said. But as soon as she tried, the bike tipped over. She scraped her knee.
“I can't do it,” she whispered.
“You don't have to do it today,” Dad said. “Just try a little every day.”

Day two was wobbly. Day three, she fell into a bush. Day four, she managed to stay upright for three seconds. Day five, six seconds. Each morning, her dad ran behind her, holding the seat. Then one morning—Day seven—she looked back and saw her dad standing ten metres away. He wasn't holding the bike anymore. She was riding all by herself.
“I'm doing it!” she shouted. The wind felt cool on her face. She rode to the end of the street and turned around, still balanced. When she stopped, her dad was smiling. Her friends came out and cheered.
That evening, Lily wrote in her notebook: Today I learned to ride a bike. I fell seven times. But on the eighth try, I flew. Never give up.
It wasn't a long trip or an expensive camp. It was just a summer morning, a bike, and a decision to go for it. But Lily knew she would remember this day for the rest of her life.
