While traveling in Tongcheng, Anhui Province, tourists must visit a famous alley（小巷）—Liu Chi Xiang. There is an interesting story behind the alley.
Zhang Ying was a minister（大臣）during the Qing Dynasty. He lived in Beijing. One day, he received a letter from his family in his hometown of Tongcheng. From the letter, Zhang learned that his family were arguing with their neighbor, the Wu family, over the house boundary（边界）. The Zhang family wrote the letter, hoping that Zhang could force（迫使）the Wu family to make a concession.
However, Zhang wrote a poem back saying, “Writing a letter from home miles away, just for a wall. All that argument over one meter or two. Looking at the ten thousand-mile-long Great Wall. Long gone（一去不返）is its builder, Emperor Qinshihuang.”
After reading the letter, the Zhang family understood that the close relationship（关系）with their neighbors was more important than their house boundary. So they decided to move their wall back about one meter for their neighbor. The Wu family were deeply touched by this and they moved their wall one meter back, too. A two-meter-wide alley was created between their houses.
Now, Tongcheng is a national historical and cultural city. And the story of Liu Chi Xiang is widely spread. It always reminds people to live in harmony（和睦）with one another.
