The Merlion, a mythical(神话中的) animal, is half-fish and half-lion. It stands for Singapore’s identity—its fish body stands for Singapore’s past as a fishing village, while its lion head represents Singapore’s old name—Singapura(the “lion city” in Sanskrit). It was built by a craftsman called Lim Nang Seng.
