Some green energy comes from the sun, wind or water, but there is another kind: geothermal energy. It comes from the heat inside Earth. Deep under the ground, rocks are very hot. They heat the water underground, and we can use the hot water and steam to make electricity or heat our homes.
Geothermal energy is clean and it never runs out. Unlike wind or solar power, it is not affected by(被……影响) weather, seasons or the day-night cycle, so it is very reliable(可靠的). It does not pollute the air, making it great for our planet.
In China, a town in Shandong uses geothermal energy to keep homes warm in winter. The hot water, about 82℃, travels up from nearly 2,000 metres underground. After heating homes, the warm water is also used in greenhouses to help flowers, fruit and vegetables grow. This system saves about 34,000 tons of coal each year.
Using more geothermal energy can help us live a greener life and protect Mother Earth.
