Deng Xiaolan,a music teacher,has made a big difference in education in China. She teaches not only in cities,but also in poor areas.
In 2004,60-year-old Deng Xiaolan volunteered to teach music in a village named Malan in Hebei Province. There was almost no music class in this village,but she saw it was a chance to help the children. At first,she had to face many challenges,including the hard living conditions and the 350-kilometre travel twice a month. However,she made up her mind to give the children a good music education. She worked hard to make lesson plans and teaching materials that were right for the students. She also organized after-school music clubs and performances to give them a chance to show their talents.
Deng Xiaolan's work paid off. The students in the village became interested in music and their skills got improved quickly. They even won prizes in local music competitions. In 2022,the Malan Flower Chorus(合唱团),made up of 44 children,sang the Olympic Anthem(会歌) in Greek at the opening ceremony(典礼) of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Their beautiful voice left a deep memory in many people's hearts.
Her work continued until she died at the age of 79. She was awarded(授予) the title of 2022 Touching China because of her love for music education and love for the children. Her strong influence on the children has encouraged many people to dedicate(奉献) themselves to education.
