I wanted to learn skills I had never picked up before, so I took up skating. Over the past two weeks, I had done better and better in skating. And I would like to share the sport with my kid. But my daughter became interested in skating herself before I had the chance to ask her to enjoy the sport with me.
This isn't my first day as a parent, and I know she always cares about what her friends think. She talked about her desired skates a few times before. But every time she tried on a pair of her friends' skates, her friends would laugh, so she gave up.
My daughter's school would hold a skating competition. It was a perfect motivation for us. So I bought her a pair and we went to the park to practise. At first she was afraid, holding my hand as she went on. Every 15 minutes or so, she'd rest, and I'd let go of her hand to skate around, practising my own moves. "You are really good, Mum," she said.
After more practice, we were in the skating field with all her friends. She was not afraid any more and excited to skate, while I was free to move around at high speed among the other slow-moving kids and parents.
Skating with my kid took my mind off work. In this way, I not only made better use of my time but also had a wonderful family time with my daughter. I'll keep up with it.
