Young People’s Small Actions for a Greener World
Protecting the environment and saving energy don’t require big efforts. Many teenagers are helping with small creative actions, and the following three stories
below show how they make a difference.
Emma and her friends set up a club called “New Life from Old Clothes” in high school. They noticed that many students threw away old uniforms and clothes, so they collected these unused ones. With basic sewing(缝纫) skills, they turned the old clothes into useful things like eco-friendly bags , pillowcases(枕套) and pet clothes. They also held a market in their community to sell these products and donated all the money to environmental organizations. Their actions not only reduced waste but also inspired more people to join in environmental protection.
Tom, a junior high student, noticed a problem at school: rain left much water on the playground, but the garden’s flowers and grass often dried up. He and his science group designed a rainwater collection system with unused plastic buckets(桶) and PVC pipes(管子). It guided roof rainwater into a storage tank(储水箱), not only solving the water logging(积水) problem but also providing water for plants, helping the school save much tap water.
Liu Chenrui, a middle school student, hated seeing much food waste in his community. He turned an old juicer(榨汁机) into a machine that makes kitchen waste into organic fertilizer(有机肥) in seven days. It is much faster than traditional ways and helps reuse resources. His invention even won an award, showing small home actions not only reduce carbon emissions but also create a cycle of resource reuse.
Emma, Tom and Liu’s stories prove everyone can protect the earth. Small creative actions can add up to make our world greener and better.
