Hans Christian Andersen(汉斯·克里斯蒂安·安徒生) was a very famous Danish writer. He was born in 1805 in a poor family. His early life was tough. His father was a shoemaker(鞋匠), but he died when Andersen was young. His mother had to work really hard to make enough money for them to live. Even though life was hard, Andersen loved books and art a lot.
He is well-known for his fairy tales. Stories like *The Little Mermaid*(小美人鱼), in which a mermaid gives up a lot for love, *The Ugly Duckling*(丑小鸭) which shows how to learn to like yourself, and *The Snow Queen*(白雪皇后) full of magic and exciting trips, are loved by many people around the world. His tales mix(混合) fun ideas with good lessons about life, love, and being kind.
