Grandma: He brought a big pot and cooked mutton and herbs(羊肉和药草) inside. Then he made small dumplings that looked like ears. He called them jiao'er.
Lily: What did he do with them?
Grandma: He gave the dumplings and warm soup to the poor people. After eating the warm food, people's ears became warm and got better.
Lily: Now I know why we eat jiaozi on the Winter Solstice!
Grandma: Exactly. And people also started to get together to make dumplings and help each other on the Winter Solstice. Later, it became a special day to show kindness and get together with family members.
