During the past summer holiday, I was struck with the idea of getting a job so I'd have something to do over the long summer. I wanted a job to earn pocket money so that I could buy cute clothes, jewelry, or be able to treat myself to a nice lunch if I wanted.
I struggled with trying to find a job where I could keep myself safe in the middle of the pandemic. For a 16-year-old, there were not many options. One day in August, when I tried to order takeout, it occurred to me that I could become a delivery driver for a popular food delivery app called Doordash. It was a perfect fit for me because I could make more money than other kids my age and pick my own hours. It helped me schedule my time spent studying or being with my family.
As a new driver, one of the best parts of my delivery job is that I've learned how to get around different towns near where I live. Since signing up in the summer, I have worked around 96 hours and made 160 deliveries. My favorite nights of work are when I top my highest one-night earnings.
I found myself enjoying my job more than I expected, I love it because I get a feeling of accomplishment (成就) each night I work, and it is nice to learn about different popular restaurants in my area that I did not know about before.
