The mysterious Bermuda Triangle(百慕大三角)
The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a region in the western North Atlantic. Stretching from Florida to Puerto Rico and Bermuda, it's famous for strange disappearances of ships and planes-mysteries scientists haven't solved yet.
The first recorded event was in 1800, when an American ship USS Pickering vanished(突然消失) without a trace(踪迹). Over 200 years, over 100 ships and planes disappeared in the region. The most famous case is Flight 19 in 1945: Five US Navy bombers(美国海军轰炸机) lost contact during training, and a rescue plane also vanished-the 27 crew members(机组人员) were never found.
People have many theories. Some believe in supernatural (超自然的) forces like UFOs. Scientists guess natural causes: sudden storms, waterspouts(水龙卷), or methane(甲烷) gas bubbles from the seabed that reduce water density(密度) and sink ships. But no theory is proven.
Recent technology helped find underwater volcanoes and unusual magnetic(有磁性的) fields there, which may affect navigation(导航) tools. Yet the mysteries remain. As a scientist said, "Nature has secrets we haven't unlocked. " It reminds us how little we know and encourages exploration.
