Jorge Serrano and his dog Charlie were walking through a park in Cornelius,
North Carolina, when they heard noise near the pond. It was a duck, sounding from a drain(下水道) in
the centre of the water. Across the street, about 150 feet away, a small group of people got together at
the mouth of the drain.
Five baby ducks swam too close and they were stuck(困住) in the drain. You could hear their
scared cries. The drain was less than 2 feet in diameter(直径). Serrano would never fit. But Charlie ...
"He'll do anything you ask him to do," said Serrano. "He'll send newspapers when he walks by
somebody's house. And he'll carry flowers to somebody if you ask him to do it."
Charlie looked into the drain, listening carefully.
"Go and get the ducks!" Serrano said.
It was dark, dirty and scary in the drain. Charlie took a few steps towards the unknown. He turned
back with a look that said, "What are you asking me to do here?"
"Go in and get the ducks!" Serrano said again.
Charlie went away, returning seconds later with a dirty stick. He handed it hopefully to Serrano.
"Ducks," said Serrano.
This time, the message came across. Charlie moved into the cold and dark drain. His footfalls went
away. ▲ If Charlie got lost or stuck, what should he do?
But the dog did it—taking things back. Minutes later, he appeared, gently holding a duckling in his
mouth. Serrano cheered him on, and then sent him back in.
Five times, Charlie went into the drain and carried the ducks out one by one. At last the baby
ducks were reunited(重聚) with their mother.
"I'm proud of training him, but really, he's just a smart guy that wants to please," said Serrano.

根据“Five baby ducks swam too close and they were stuck in the drain.”
根据“He'll send newspapers when he walks by somebody's house. And he'll carry flowers to somebody if you ask him to do it.”
根据“His footfalls went away ... If Charlie got lost or stuck, what should he do?” 故选A。
根据“Charlie went away, returning seconds later with a dirty stick.”

Five baby ducks swam too close and they were stuck in the drain."
31. B 32. D 33. A 34. C 35. A
0.65
