Three-people Township
In May 2022, a sing and dance drama about Yumai was on. It has made more people
start to know about the town with the least population in China. Yumai sits at the southern foot of the Himalayas and near the border with India. Before 1996, only three people lived there. They were Sangje Quba and his two daughters, Zhuoga and Yangzong. For this reason, it was once called a "Three-people Township". The family has guarded our country day and night for nearly half a century.
The natural environment of Yumai is very challenging. Every year, it has over 260 days of snow and rain. Winter lasts for months in Yumai, with the township being completely isolated（与世隔绝的）from the outside world starting from November till May of next year. In the past, as it got closer to winter, local people always had to store the whole winter's food and other daily resources. But things changed in 2017. With the help of the Party(CPC) and the government, new roads were built. Yumai finally welcomed its first winter without food storage that year.
By the end of 2020, Yumai became a well-off model township with 266 people. Now, Yumai has been connected to water and electricity, and all kinds of public services, including post offices, banks, hospitals and schools, have already been set up. At the same time, it has developed characteristic tourism industries. The life of local people is also getting better and better. They are looking forward to moving into the two-story buildings with a yard built up by the government.
Today, the children of Yumai continue to sing "Home is Yumai; Country is China". And people there will go on playing an important role in guarding our country.
