A young man was travelling.It was late in
the day,and he wanted to drink some water.
When he met an old woman on the road,he
asked her,“ Where can I get water?"
The old woman told him,“ Walk along the
road and you'll see a small river.” Later,the old
woman said,“ I f you pick up some pebbles(鹅卵
石)from the river bed,you will be both happy and sad."
The young man thanked the oll d woman and went on his way.When it got dark,he found the river and drank some water.He thought it was wrong to pick up pebbles,but he still picked some up.He then found a place to sleep.
The next morning,the young man was surprised to find those pebbles became beautiful and bright jewels(宝石).Quickly he ran back to the river to get more,but there were only pebbles.
