Each of you may have a Xinhua Dictionary. But did you know it is also the most popular dictionary in the world? On April 12, Guinness World Records named the Xinhua Dictionary the “most popular dictionary” and the “best-selling book”.
The Xinhua Dictionary is the first modern Chinese dictionary following the foundation（建立）of the People’s Republic of China. As of July 28, 2015, it had sold 567 million copies worldwide. The Xinhua Dictionary has been a tool（工具）for several generations（辈）of Chinese people. It bears the culture of China and is known as the “National Dictionary”. At the same time, it is also a useful tool for foreigners learning Chinese and Chinese culture. According to Tan Yue, President of China Publishing Group, the two Guinness World Records for the Xinhua Dictionary are a symbol（标志）of Sino-foreign cultural exchange. “It shows the big international influence of the Chinese language from a micro（微观的）level,” said Tan.
