Be proud of who you are
When I was in Grade 7, I was always the quietest student in the class. I had a stutter(结巴) when I spoke, and I was afraid to answer questions in class. Every
time I tried to speak, my words would get stuck, and some classmates would laugh at me. I felt ashamed and tried my best to hide myself. I even refused to talk with my friends after class, because I was afraid they would make fun of my stutter.
One day, our English teacher asked us to give a short speech about “our unique selves”. I was very nervous and wanted to
escape. But my teacher noticed my fear and talked to me privately. She said, “Your stutter doesn’t make you weak. It’s a part of you, and it makes you unique. Don’t let it hold you back. Be brave to show your true self, and people will respect you.”
With my teacher’s encouragement, I decided to try. I prepared a short speech about my hobbies and my feelings. When I stood in front of the class, my hands were shaking, and I stuttered more than usual. But I didn’t stop. I kept speaking, and slowly, I felt more confident. To my surprise, no one laughed at me. Instead, my classmates clapped for me after I finished.
Now, I am no longer ashamed of my stutter. I know that everyone has their own weaknesses and differences, but these differences make us special. We don’t need to be perfect, and we don’t need to copy others. The most important thing is to accept ourselves and be proud of who we are. Only when we love ourselves being can we live happily and bravely.
