They were sold in many areas across the country and even spread to foreign countries. Most paintings focus on good luck, folk customs and interesting stories, carrying people's wishes for a happy and peaceful life.
However, with the rapid development of modern printing technology, this traditional hand-made art is facing great difficulties. Modern printing is much faster and cheaper, so fewer and fewer people choose hand-made paintings. For a period of time, few people were willing to learn this craft(手艺), and some old workshops had to close forever.
Luckily, things have taken a turn for the better in recent years. In 2006, this art was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage(遗产), which draws more people's attention to it. Many inheritors try their best to pass down this valuable craft and teach it to young people. They also create new and fashionable designs, such as paintings with Year of the Horse elements(元素), to attract young people. Exhibitions and cultural products help more people know and love this art.
