Once there was a boy with a bad temper(脾气). His father gave him a bag of nails(钉子) and said, "Every time you lose your temper, hammer one nail into the fence(栅栏)."
On the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails. But as time went by, he learnt to control(控制) his anger. He hammered fewer nails each day. He found it easier to stay calm(冷静的) than to hammer nails into the fence. Finally, one day, he didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it happily. His father said, "Now, for each day you stay calm, pull out one nail."
After many days, the boy told his father that all the nails were gone. The father took the boy to the fence and said, "You did well, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave scars(伤痕) just like these. Hurtful words can cause as much pain(疼痛) as physical(身体的) hurts. Even if(即使) you say 'I'm sorry', the hurt may still be there."
