A group of dancers danced the traditional Puning Yingge Chinese folk(民间的)
dance in London. They celebrated the Chinese New Year and gave people there a
wonderful cultural show. With painted faces, each dancer held a pair of short sticks
(棍). They jumped and swung the sticks while walking and dancing.
The dancers came from Chaoshan in Guangdong Province, China. They travelled
to the UK to give their wishes of good luck to the people in the UK.
The Puning Yingge dance is a national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗
产) in China. It has a long history. "We usually perform this dance during traditional
Chinese festivals and we see it as a symbol of happiness," the leader of the dance
group said.
"We hope to bring these meanings to British people and at the same time, make
the dance become more popular in the world," the leader added.
