There aren't a lot of crimes in the hills of Hampshire, England. When something goes missing, people are likely to notice.
On 15 May 2023, workers at Miller's Ark Animals, a charitable farm noticed that one of their baby donkeys was missing. The baby donkey named Moon was just 12 weeks old and too young to be away from his mother, but he had somehow disappeared.
The police were called, and the owner Elizabeth Miller put out a plea on social media to ask for the public's help in finding Moon. The social media messages inspired lots of concerned responses. People were surprised that a baby donkey had been stolen and were concerned for Moon's health.
Soon the whole Hampshire community was taking part in finding Moon. Someone started a GoFundMe to raise money to equip the farm with security cameras, so no other animals would be put at risk.
The first big break in the case didn't happen until 22 May. "Someone said he saw a small donkey in a blue car," Elizabeth wrote on social media.
It took another week before the farm received the call. The police followed a tip from the public to an address in Buckinghamshire. They found Moon, who was in good health, and returned him to his very grateful owner.
The public was happy to hear that Moon was back, safe and sound. Elizabeth shared a video of herself hugging the donkey and giving him a big kiss on the head.
