What is ThermoFace? Researchers from Beijing University created a new tool called ThermoFace. Different from older ways to take one’s body temperature, it looks at different parts of the face to check people’s age and health.
▲ The face has many blood vessels (血管). With their help, ThermoFace can find “hot” and “cool” areas in the face that change with age and illness. For example, as people become older, the temperature of their nose goes down faster than other parts of their face. If someone’s nose is warmer, it means he is of a younger age. However, the area around the eyes usually gets hotter as people get older. Scientists also find that people with high blood pressure (高血压) have warmer cheeks (脸颊). With ThermoFace, doctors can notice people’s illness earlier. They can do more tests and give advice.
Can ThermoFace work perfectly? Will ThermoFace work the same for everyone? We still don’t know. Other factors, like exercise and eating ice cream, can change the temperature of your face. The tool can’t tell us why something has happened, but it can show doctors that there might be a problem.
ThermoFace is helpful for research, but we still need to find out if it can be used in real life to help doctors.
