Each time I run on the beach near my home,I see the same old woman sitting on the beach with a small bamboo cage(竹笼)beside her.
This Saturday,I stopped running and went over to her. I found that there were three turtles(乌龟)in the bamboo cage. She was carefully wiping a turtle with a brush, which made me feel surprised.
“Hello,” I said. “What are you doing with these turtles?”
“I’m cleaning off their shells(壳),” she replied. “Algae(海藻)and barnacles(藤壶)on a turtle’s shell can make the turtle swim slowly and weaken the shell over time. ”
She went on,“I relaxed on this beach and helped these turtles out. ”
“Well,it’s a waste of time. 99% of these turtles don’t need people to help them clean off their shells. So,how are your efforts(努力)here truly making a difference?”
The woman smiled and wiped off the last piece of algae from the turtle’s shell, and said,“Sweetie,if this little guy could talk,he’d tell you I just made all the difference in the world. ”
