C
Imagine you are in a hard game of tug-of-war(拔河). You pull the rope hard to keep your team from losing. More people join your team. The team becomes stronger, but did you know that when more people join, each person actually tries less hard?
This is a common behaviour in humans, says Daniele Carlesso, a researcher in Germany. He wondered whether ants act the same way when they work together. Ants and humans have much in common. For example, ants are one of the few animals that often move things as a group to achieve a goal, just like people.
Carlesso's team studied weaver ants that live in tropical forests. They work well together, joining their bodies to do group tasks. They use leaves to make nests or carry big things. These ants can join together using their mouths or legs to build different shapes.
In the lab, scientists watched the ants work on a paper leaf. They measured(测量) how hard the ants pulled and carried the paper as a team. They thought each ant might work less when the group grew bigger—as people do. But they found the opposite was true. When more ants joined, each ant tried almost twice as hard. The ants became even better team workers.
The study was published(发表) in the magazine Current Biology. Carlesso says this finding may help engineers build better robot teams. It may also encourage people to be better team players.
People often think: “If I try less, no one will notice.” In a group, people sometimes feel less responsible.
As for Carlesso, when posting about the study online, he made sure to write, “huge thanks to my team for their great effort.”

解析
1. 第23题:题干询问拔河队伍加入更多人后的变化,先定位到文章第一段,找到关键句“when more people join, each person actually tries less hard?”,对比选项即可得出答案。
2. 第24题:题干询问织叶蚁在实验中的反应,定位到文章第四段实验结果部分,关键句为“When more ants joined, each ant tried almost twice as hard”,据此匹配选项。
3. 第25题:猜测划线词“responsible”的含义,结合第六段上下文“People often think: ‘If I try less, no one will notice.’”,可知此处指人们在群体中觉得不需要做好自己的分内事,由此推断词义。
根据第一段最后一句“when more people join, each person actually tries less hard?”
根据第四段“But they found the opposite was true. When more ants joined, each ant tried almost twice as hard.”
根据第六段“People often think: ‘If I try less, no one will notice.’”
