My first time to join in a beach clean-up was in Costa Rica. Our group walked for 30 minutes along a path to a small beach called “Playa Basura”. It means “trash beach” in Spanish. A lot of trash is washed up on the beach there. The beach often looks like it is covered with colorful rocks. But the rocks are just small pieces of plastic. Most of the trash comes from other areas. It washes down rivers and into the sea. Then the currents(水流) carry the rubbish to Playa Basura.
Our group worked hard for about two hours and filled over 100 trash bags. The difference was amazing. But every year the rainy season brings more trash.
